Kalam was born in Rameswaram in Tamil Nadu on October 15, 1931, and died on July 27, 2015, in Shillong, Meghalaya. After graduation from the Madras Institute of Technology, he is associated with the Defence Research and Development Organization.

Abdul Kalam worked in the connivance of a great space scientist Vikram Ambalal Sarabhai (Father of Space Programs of India). Later in 1969, Kalam became Project Director of India’s first indigenous satellite missile, SLV-III.

Dr. Kalam was born on October 15, 1931, in Jainulabadeen and Ashiyamma’s house. His family’s Mali condition was not good due to which he had started working to provide financial support at a very early age.

However, during his work, he never left his studies. In 1954, he completed his graduation from the St. Joseph’s College of Tiruchirapalli and aeronautical engineering from Madras Institute. After graduation, Kalam joined DRDO as a Chief Scientist.

However, he soon became displaced in the Indian Space Research Organization as Project Director of India’s first indigenous Satellite missile. Dr. Kalam also served as Chief Executive of Guided Missile Development Program, which included simultaneous development of vibration of missiles.

Dr. Kalam was also the Prime Minister’s Chief Scientific Advisor and Secretary of DRDO from 1992 to 1999. After his successful contribution as a key project coordinator for Pokhran II nuclear test, he was called “Missile Man of India.”

Motivation And Inspiration

He wrote many inspirational books such as “India 2020, Ignited Minds, Mission India, The Luminous Spark, Inspiring Thought” etc. Dr. Kalam started a mission for youth in the name of “What Can I Give Movement” to eradicate corruption in the country.

He served as a guest professor in various institutes and universities of the country (Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad and Indore, etc.), Chancellor of Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology Thiruvananthapuram, JSS University (Mysore), Aerospace Engineering at Anna University (Chennai).
