Introduction
India became free on 15th August 1947. After nearly 200 years of British rule, India was a free country. But that was not easy, India was not the way it is today with 29 states and 7 Union Territories. There were numerous princely states which got independence too. After the partition of India and Pakistan, this was a major task for the leaders.
Sardar Vallabhai Patel was one of the main leaders who convinced most of the princely states to give up autonomy and join the Union of India. After several negotiations, India could become somewhat like what it was in history.
The Struggle
It all started with the revolt of 1857 when Britishers introduced gun shells coated with cow and pig fat. The revolt led to a revolution. Freedom fighters struggled in all parts of India to make her a free country. Bhagat Singh, Subhash Chandra Bose, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, Lokmanya Tilak, and many others. Most of the leaders used the violent medium of protest and were not so powerful against the British.
Mahatma Gandhi brought in a non-violent way of protest, and he was successful Init. The Congress under the leadership of freedom fighters like Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, Sardar Vallabhai Patel, and others kept the protest burning in the minds of the people of India. The demand for independence was now stronger than before.
The Britisher’s strategy of divide and rule was also not successful this time and finally India was a free and independent country.
Celebrations
Independence day is a national festival and is celebrated with utmost joy and fervor all over the country. Every school, colleges, apartments celebrate the festival in their way and hoist the National Flag. People sing the national anthem and remember the struggles and sacrifices of the freedom fighters.
Government building and decorated and functions are organized where guests are welcomed, and National Flag is hoisted.
