Lokmanya Bal Gangadhar Tilak probably known as Lokmanya Tilak was an Indian Nationalist political activist and social reformer who fought for our freedom from the Britishers. Bal Gangadhar Tilak was born on 23rd July 1856 in Ratnagiri which is in Maharashtra.
While seeking his education Lokmanya Tilak was a brilliant student he was straightforward and truthful in his nature he completed his graduation from the Deccan College in Pune he shifted to Pune because of his father’s work in 1877. In Pune, he completed his law degree and started to teach English and mathematics in a school.
He was a great teacher and likes to give his teachings to all. To spread his teachings all over he started to make newspapers. He made two newspapers Kesari in Marathi and Mahratta in English. His teachings from the newspapers were spread all over the people.
His Political Career
India 1880 when he was teaching in a school the school authorities did not allow him to teach as they were Britishers and so because of this he quit the job and join the Indian National Congress to oppose the rules of Britishers and criticize the educational system followed by the British in India.
He organized many movements for removing the British from India and he got support from Lala Lajpat Rai and Bipin Chandra Pal and with the help of them he organized many movements and inspire many people to fight against the Britishers and this three were called as Lal-Bal-Pal by the people.
He organizes many movements but there was a time when he was not getting support by the people and also by the Indian National Congress so because of this he was imprisoned in the year 1906 and no support came from Indian National Congress. But his thoughts have been inspired by some of the people and many people started to follow him and try to release him from the jail.
Towards his nation, he started to encourage the youth by their inspiring quotes. He also profounds the two newspapers which give knowledge to the youth of our society. He also writes many articles that inspired the people
.At that time all the people lived separately to bring them closer and equal he started to celebrate Ganesh Chaturthi and Shivaji Jayanti. By celebrating these festivals people become to come close and become equal. He tried his best all his life to fight for the people but his hard work never gets recognized. He did not get the appreciation that he deserved.
Lokmanya Tilak was very much disappointed by the incident that has happened in the Jallianwala Bagh that his health was started to decline and in his illness he did not stop to inspire people and organise many movements no matter what happens to him and this relates to his health and he suffered from Diabetes and become very weak and on 1 August 1920 Lokmanya Tilak passed away. Many people were gathered to take the last glimpse of their leader.
He was a strong leader who inspired many of his people. After Lokmanya Tilak his legacy is been also continued by the people as his Marathi newspaper that he has started is still circulating weekly and the festivals that he has started of Ganesh Chaturthi and Shivaji jJayantiare celebrated between people.
Bal Gangadhar Tilak was a great freedom fighter and he would be always in the hearts of the people for his great deeds and struggle for freedom of our country.
